Tesco Bank is the trading name of Tesco Personal Finance plc. The company operates as a telephone and internet-based commercial bank in the UK, which is owned by Tesco, the UK's largest supermarket. Tesco and the Royal Bank of Scotland owned Tesco Bank in a 50/50 partnership until 2008. Then, in 2010, Tesco Bank struck out on its own. The company is registered in Scotland at St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
Tesco Bank is a provider of affordable health insurance options for policyholders and their families that are both simple and flexible. AXA Healthcare endorses Tesco Health Insurance. By teaming up with AXA PPP Healthcare, Tesco is able to provide private health insurance for its customers. At the 2010 “Your Money Awards,” Tesco Bank was awarded the title of “Best Private Medical Insurance Provider”.
Tesco is aware that illness and injury can happen at the most unexpected times in life, even to those who take care of themselves quite well. This is why the company gives you choices when it comes to your health insurance cover.
If you choose to take out coverage with Tesco Health Insurance, you have the option of when you want to be treated, ensuring that treatment you receive is accessible, quick, and completely convenient. Another advantage is that you have a couple of great options to choose from when designing your plan.
Tesco Health Insurance offers two options to choose from when deciding on a health insurance plan. Option 1 is called the “Consultations and Tests” plan. It allows you to take out coverage for consultations with specialists and diagnostic tests, and it also keeps you covered for your outpatient treatments as well.
Option 2 is “Additional Therapies,” and it allows you coverage for physiotherapy and practitioner charges that are complementary. Tesco’s Directory of Hospitals allows you to choose where you want to be treated. The network gives you access to over 250 hospitals throughout the UK. All of these facilities are hand-selected not only for their range of services, but for their exceptional quality and value as well.
There are a wide range of key benefits that Tesco Bank provides for all private health insurance plans for both adults and children. For example, there is no policy requiring you to take a medical exam before you purchase an insurance product. All private treatment takes place in an in-network medical facility, so you can be sure that care is highly accessible and you will be taken care of as quickly as possible. There are over 250 highly qualified hospitals in Tesco’s network, which means that you will be able to find a facility not far from wherever you are in the UK.
All of the company’s forms and applications are simple to fill out and contain easy to answer, straightforward questions. Its plans are highly suitable for the lifestyles of all policyholders, and the company offers convenient times for treatment and appointments as well. Paying your medical bills is simple as well – all payments are made directly to the hospital where you were treated on your behalf.
Coverage through Tesco Bank is comprehensive, and it includes most operations and procedural visits. Overnight stays, surgery costs, radiotherapy, treatment costs, chemotherapy, and a wide variety outpatient and inpatient procedures are covered under the plan.
You may purchase additional options to upgrade your existing policy in order to enhance it. Policyholders cannot purchase extra coverage, but there are two options for enhanced protection and each holder has the right to purchase either one:
Option One – This option provides advantageous access to all tests and consultations and covers any specialty fees as well. The limit for combined coverage with this option is set at £1,000 each year, which is equal to about six referrals.
Option Two – This option also has a combined coverage limit of £1,000 each year, but it also includes acupuncture, homeopathy treatments, chiropractic, and physiotherapy treatments.
There are exclusions, however. Some of these excluded items include pre-existing conditions, treatment of long-term illnesses, and coverage for health problems that are ongoing. Adding a 6-week option can reduce your monthly premiums, which automatically provides you with private alternatives if the NHS is not able to provide treatment within 6 weeks of the scheduled period.
Health Coverage for Children
Tesco Bank not only provides private health insurance for adults, but also has a comprehensive solution for children as well. For £9.99 a month, a policyholder can add the Tesco Child Health Plan, and the price lowers by £1 for each child if the plan covers more than two family members. Aside from providing peace of mind for parents, there are several benefits to adding this feature to your existing policy:
- When a consultation is needed for a condition, there are no waiting periods
- After a visit a GP, your child will be referred for further diagnosis instantly
- If during the consultation it has been decided that more treatment is necessary, you child will be able to receive the health care they need right away
- Private wards within NHS hospitals will be available or treatment will be provided through a private hospital
- If your child is under the age of 14, hospital accommodations will be paid in full so you can stay by your child’s side every step of the way through their treatment
- You will have complete access to the “Health at Hand” telephone helpline available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
In addition to the Clubcard and gift card programs, for all Tesco Bank policyholders there are several other rewards available as well. If you refer a friend to private health insurance through Tesco Bank, you can either receive a £30 gift card or choose to add 1,000 points on to your Clubcard account.
Additionally, if you take out a policy for you or your children, Tesco Bank has some other rewards for you too. If you have successfully applied to become a policyholder, you will receive a £40 gift card and be eligible for other exclusive offers if you apply over the telephone.
An added bonus for purchasing Tesco Health Insurance is that if you buy a policy online or over the phone by 29 February 2012, you can receive a free giftcard from Tesco for £60. There are certain conditions that apply to this reward, and this offer does not apply to any of the Tesco Child Health Plans.
